Saturday April 14 2012 – About Boating Safely (ABS) – 8 Hrs – 9am- 5pm – $45 per Person  

If you are interested in an exciting, in-depth boating safety course, this beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete About Boating Safely.  Teenagers who complete the class can get their Illinois or Wisconsin Certificate to operate a PWC.   For All Boaters

 

Friday Evening class - April 20 2012 – Heavy Weather 7pm to 9 PM - $20 per Person

This seminar will train boaters on safe seamanship, heavy weather tactics, weather forecasting, communications and boat preparation. There will be discussions on safety equipment, crew-overboard recovery techniques and an opportunity to pose questions to experienced instructors.

Friday Evening class – April 27 2012 - Know your Ships Radio 7pm to 9 PM - $20 per Person

The presentation covers radios used on boats; installation, operating your VHF-FM, maintaining a radio watch, channels that have special purposes, some no-no’s, the rules, calling another station, procedure words, phonetic alphabet, routine radio check, distress-urgency-and safety calls crew training the seminar includes special attention to selecting a receiver, uses of DSC radios with GPS.

Friday Evening class – May 11 2012 -Knot Tying (2 hrs) 7 Pm to 9 PM - $20 per Person

This course will familiarize you with what is needed to properly secure a boat and mooring of your choice. By the end of the session you will demonstrate that tying at least six knots used in vessel operation and docking is not difficult. In addition, multiple instructors will provide you with all the instruction and practice needed to transfer classroom skills to your boat.

Saturday – June 2 2012 - Critical Safe Boating tips (3 hr class) 9am to 12 am. - $35.00 per Person

USCG Auxiliary Instructors and Safety examiner will help you better understand what is needed on your boat to be properly equipped for cruising the Great Lakes. This presentation will cover Coast Guard legal requirements for the equipment on board recreation vessels, plus a review of other desirable equipment to help make any voyage – long or short – a safe and enjoyable journey.  An added bonus includes a personal safety check on board your boat, arranged individually by mutual consent.

Saturday - June 9 2012 – GPS for Mariners – (3 hr class) 9am to 12 am - $35 per Person

This course is a modern learning experience that focuses on the GPS equipment typically owned by the recreational boater. You can bring your handheld GPS and use it in class. We will have Handheld GPS units for you to use.

Note: All classes are presented at: North Point Marina (administration Building) End of 7th street
